What is the Volkswagen Passat SE?

A Volkswagen Passat SE is an entry-level version of the German manufacturer’s biggest mainstream saloon, so while it’s fairly affordable, it’s also packed with kit to give it more appeal.

There’s no reason not to go for a Passat SE, because it comes with more than just the basics and you still get access to the same range of efficient engines as higher-spec models.

What are the Volkswagen Passat SE specs?

In the car’s later years, before it was replaced by a new model in late 2023, petrol power came from a 150hp 1.5-litre engine.

There were also 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engines to pick from, which are very efficient on long trips. They have 120hp and 150hp respectively.

You can also pick from manual and automatic gearboxes – the smooth-shifting dual-clutch automatic is great for taking the stress out of driving.

Standard kit varies by model year, and if you’re looking on other car sites, you’ll notice that SE models were also available on much older Passats, so it’s worth paying attention to any individual listing to see if it comes with what you want.

If you like the sound of hybrid power, you’ll have to go for a top-spec GTE model, but you could save the cost spent on the car by paying a lot less in fuel, providing you have regular access to a charging point.
